We've extended our lazy streak to a fourth day. If I'm being generous, I'd say Day 1 doesn't count since we did drive over 300 miles that day. Since then we've done nearly nothing. Today may change that. I got out our hiking book yesterday and looked for some hikes we might want to take. Mike wondered if I'd like to ride bikes. The idea of riding bikes still fills me with dread, but I'm working on enjoying it more and riding with less fear. Maybe we'll do one or the other ...

read moreOn a hunt for books in a second hand book shop, down in Shelly Beach, I found this gem of a book. It looked like it had not been read and brand new, and was priced at R20. The book is called A Guide To Retreat, For all God’s Shepherds – by Reuben P. Job. I love reading books about spirituality, Theology and anything to do with God, The Holy Spirit and Jesus. And this book captured my attention from the first word, so much in fact, that I ended up reading it through twice in a row. The author ...

My friend Cindy Grisdela’s new book with C&T is out and it is guaranteed to satisfy all of your improv quilting needs!
Cindy and I met many years ago when she offered to give me a ride from Philadelphia, PA to Lewes, Delaware. We have been meeting for coffee, drinks, and dinner ever since. This is a photo of Cindy and I when our first books came out. Cindy had the tenacity to write another one!
Cindy is a kind and thoughtful friend and teacher. This book exemplifies those aspects of her character. It breaks down ...

read moreIt's been so long since I made this quilt, you probably forgot all about it, didn't you? The prompt for the latest challenge for The Endeavourers was "Opposites Attract." I had a few ideas about this prompt: Yin and Yang, and a few others. I finally settled on making a quilt from a small stained glass art piece I purchased at a gift shop on the Oregon Coast many years ago. I have no information about the original artist. It used to hang in my office when I was a social worker in private practice, and so Tragedy ...

read moreProbably I shouldn't say something like that since I just had a blood draw yesterday. Not to worry...I still have some blood left in my body, and only a tiny bruise on my arm. No, when I sat down to my desktop computer this morning, it said in "computer" font: BOOTMGR MISSING. No problem, I thought...I'll just call the system administrator to take care of this. He took one look at it and said, "Oh...that isn't good." It seems my hard drive died overnight. Honestly, the cats did not do it. Fortunately, everything is ...

I did get all sixty some blocks sewn for this crazy quilt this week. Now I am working on sewing up the quilt top. Who knew I had so many scraps in these colors?!
Recently I had been offered some Theological books to keep or pass forward. And I said yes, thinking it was going to be 2 boxes of books, maybe. Oh boy was I wrong. 21 boxes of books later, I sorted through them all and selected a few that I need for my studies, a few that I need for growing my knowledge about things, and a few books that is about interests that I have. And let’s be clear by a few, I mean, I basically have one wall filled with books. And the rest is being sorted through ...

Happy New Year! Yes, I know I’m a month and a half late and Valentine’s Day has come and gone which means that we’re already halfway through the month of February, but my writing muse seems to have taken a bigger hit last year than I’d realized. For some reason I just could not get “in the zone” or whatever writers call their place of creativity. I’m going to try and correct that though and have actually written a bit of a story for a contest that I ran across last week. I figure if ...
read moreOn Saturdays I will have some “sampler” posts that are not necessarily about quilting. It may be a recipe, what I’m currently watching or listening to, general musing, or like today, a book review. Today’s review is for A Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd.
I looked forward to reading this book since I read and liked two of Sue Monk Kidd’s other books; The Secret Life of Bees and The Invention of Wings. When I got The Book of Longings, I didn’t know what it was about. When I discovered the subject matter, admittedly ...

Just take a look at this wonderfully wet world.
Ever since returning from our short camping trip, I've felt a little off-kilter. One would think I'd be used to the feeling after so many years, but I'm not. Even feeling off-kilter can feel off sometimes. And I only bring this up to say that my days have often gone not as I planned at all. Yesterday was such a day. It was nearly 11:00 a.m. by the time I got an "early start" in the garden. Fortunately, there wasn't much to do there. I was picking the beans that were getting large enough ...
